Bonus Qualities Played in 8 less games this year than last year. At this point in the season his numbers compared to last years:. Overview He has missed playing in at least 2 games but is not listed on the injury report as of today. Bonus Qualities At this point in the season his numbers compared to last years:. Wentz still hasn't been cleared for contact , and with the regular season just around the corner, it's becoming less and less likely he'll be ready for Week 1.
It's unclear when exactly he'll be back on the field, but the expectation will be relatively early in the season. At this point, it's tough to recommend taking Wentz as a top-five fantasy QB, though that upside remains once he gets back on the field. You can still draft him "higher" than he should go as long as you get a competent backup to hold you over for the first couple weeks, but chances are Wentz will slip and actually become a "value" at this point.
It's still unclear when the public will know. Ajayi hasn't practiced for over a week because of a "lower body" injury. The exact injury and severity of it are unknown, as is Ajayi's status for Week 1 against the Falcons. Until we get a better picture of this situation, Ajayi should be approached with caution in drafts.
While we're not moving him down our RB rankings just yet, he's definitely not a guy you should reach for. Ajayi entered the league with a "bone-on-bone" knee situation, so if this injury is related to that, it could be a long year for him.
Barring any sort of major injury or off-field issue, the Bears are likely going to want to get a deal done with Jeffery sometime before the start of the season, but they may be able to save some money by signing him to an extension this offseason.
Three receivers comparable in age and talent to Jeffery — Jeremy Maclin , Randall Cobb and Torrey Smith —all signed new contracts this offseason. Dallas ' Dez Bryant and Denver 's Demaryius Thomas were both franchise-tagged this offseason, meaning they will be in line for a big payday in the future.
Assuming Bryant and Thomas receive big deals next offseason, market value at the position could go up, meaning Jeffery's value will likely go even higher if he has another productive season. Despite concerns about his weight and whether or not he can produce without Marshall, Jeffery has shown over the course of the past two seasons he has the ability to take over a game when needed.
The Bears could always wait out the season and see how he plays, but they could risk having to pay him even more money if he has another big season. If the Bears want to lock him up for the future at a good price, they would be wise to give him an extension this offseason before the going rate for wide receivers goes through the roof.
