This belief has led to pilgrims from all across Tamriel traveling to the Throat of the World, and several may be encountered along the mountain path either meditating or studying the etched tablets. The path leading to High Hrothgar begins in the village of Ivarstead —across the main bridge in the northwest side of town.
The mountain path itself is treacherous and is host to a multitude of dangerous creatures such as frost trolls , ice wraiths , snow bears , ice wolves , Frostbite Spiders and occasionally dragons. There are ten Etched Tablets along the trail telling of the founding of High Hrothgar. Reading them all will grant the Voice of the Sky passive ability. There are banners hanging throughout the interior of High Hrothgar.
Despite how many hang, there are only two separate phrases written on them and the positioning when they are first encountered seems to indicate they are meant to be paired.

I'm following the main quest and I need to get up to the Greybeard's monastery High Hrothgar. The quest marker first lead me to Ivarstead, and then I tried to find a way up the mountain. I haven't found a way up yet and I am nearly around half of the mountain now. The Clairvoyance spell also doesn't help, it just says "unable to find a direct path". How do I get up this mountain? There should be stairs near a bridge in Ivarstead you know you're near it when you can get a quest from an npc to deliver food to the Greybeards , just go up those, however sometimes they end for a bit, however the path is generally linear to High Hrothgar.
Just look around for some more steps. The UESP page for the quest is a bit vague, but might be of some help. At one point there is a hidden trail that is covered in snow. Sometimes you have to first go down to then go back up again.
